It had hit him so suddenly. The loss of her, it blind sided him. No one had seen it coming.
One moment, she was racing with him, laughing as she tossed her hair back into the wind, eyes closed in pure happiness.
She hadnt seen the edge of the ravine.
Ivy had never learned to swim, she hadn't needed to, being a unicorn meant she stayed away from water, so she wouldn't damage her horn.
He hadn't been fast enough, when he dived down after her. CountryBeat had dive bombed after her falling form, screaming at her to use her magic.
She'd panicked, and hadn't been able to use it. He'd panicked, and snapped his wings out, spraining them, and rending him incapable of saving her.
And now, day in and day out, he was haunted by her. Her smile, her laugh, those gorgeous bright eyes.
He now lay in bed, sleeplessly. His once bright green eyes, had since gone dull in pain.
"sleep baby sleep, what are you waiting for?"
The soft voice that reached him....he'd know it anywhere. He leapt to his hooves, moving to press his muzzle into her soft hair, willing it to have all been a terrible terrible dream. Her sad smile stopped him.
"I'll always be here, waiting till we can once more gallop and play" she whispered, closing her eyes, before she disappeared.
He lay on the floor that night, sobbing with complete abandonment, his shattered heart in fragments around him.
No pony can live with a heart so shattered.
